CiviMail does not send test or regular mail
September 28, 2008, 07:16:58 pm
I host with bluehost and have setup the smtp to use
mail.server.org
port 26 (that is what bluehost says)
password

The test mails will not send and I cannot tell if the session is being authenticated or what. Is there a way to tell? My isp doesn't allow sending of email from my house unless it goes through them so I do not know another way to test the smtp connection.

I can use http://nvcra.org/civicrm/mailing/queue?reset=1 and the newsletters are marked completed and they never send. If I use the url with the username and password it fails on me saying incorrect uname or pass, I know I have that right. Perhaps because I am accessing directly from the browser.

Any help is appreciated.

Are you able to send email using Contact Summary >> Send an Email ?

Hi,

Yes, I am. Not a problem that I can see there. I did have to remove a hold on that particular contact because of several emails failures which was what happened from earlier attempts to use CiviMail.

Does the email link in the contact use the phpmailer function or does that use the smtp server settings to send mail?

I have corrected the problem with the url using the username and password to run cron, but still no email. The reports say that the emails bounced and then puts the accounts on hold.

all mail functionality in civicrm uses the smtp server settings (in v2.1 you can also use sendmail instead of smtp)

So is it that I have set up civimail incorrectly since the email link in the contact record works ok?

The reports say that the emails bounced and then puts the accounts on hold. These are definitely good addresses.
