Does a profile in a transactions page get triggered to 'notify'

If a profile is included in a Transactions page, and the profile is set to 'Notify when profile form is submitted' should I expect that email to be sent when the Transaction page is completed - or only when the Transaction is Completed - or does it not get triggered when the Profile is part of a Transactions page (and if not, could it be?)

Profile with "Notify" within a Contribution page does send the email - processing happens when Confirmation page is submitted. Confirmed this with a quick test-drive on a 2.1 contribution page.

Not sure what happens if the contribution "fails" (invalid credit card or ??) - but suspect the profile would still do it's "job".

Okay - not happening for me, but then nor is the email 'receipt' so will ignore till we get to 2.1 when I will expect that behaviour and push for a fix if it is to do with what is happening when system engages with Payment Processor. cheers
