Is there any plans to allow events to be grouped together?

At my work we have recruiters who use CiviEvent to keep track of events that they are going to. It would be nice to allow them to keep track of their budgets in CiviCRM. It's easy enough to add custom fields for budget items to events; however, often event expenses can be spread over multiple events.

Example:
A recruiter may fly to Halifax and have a travel expense for their plane ticket. However, in Halifax they may attend 3 events. So, it would be nice if events could be grouped together so that the plane ticket expense could be associated with the group of events in Halifax, instead of just individual events.

there are plans to add categories (and sub-categories) to objects like mailings/events/groups. I suspect this will happen in a 2.x or 3.x release

If important to your org, you might consider sponsoring this feature and/or contributing code that will make this happen. 2.2 will have some sort of "categorization" for activity_type (this is part of the CiviCase sponsored project), so a large part of the code will be in 2.2

It sounds like categories could work for what we're trying to do (assuming custom fields could be added to categories).
