Need help with figuring out config.
October 06, 2008, 03:38:43 pm
Set-up info:
Joomla 1.5.7 / Civicrm 2.1stable
Host: Blue host
Mail server: In-house exchange server (seperate from our web hosting) behind a baracuta firewall.

OK, I configure the SMTP info:
Host(IP of our exchange server)
Port (25)
set the authourization info.

We add the IP of our bluehost box to the firewall to allow it through...

Here is the problem- We still get an error in conecting when we click the test button.

Error message:
Failed to connect to 65.106.100.131:25 [SMTP: Failed to connect socket: Connection refused (code: -1, response: )]

Am I missing something??? Any help is greatly appreciated.

1. ssh into your bluehost machine

2. do a "telnet 65.106.100.131 25" from the machine

3. most likely it will fail and you will get Connection refused. there is still something blocking the bluehost machine from contacting your exchange server. you might want to chat with bluehost (seems like it might be the bluehost firewall)

4. any specific reason u not using the bluehost smtp server?

Thanks Lobo, I'll try that.

as to your question. the biggest reason of all, an operations manager that does not like change and is scared of tech. You would not belive the fight I had to go through just to get them to leave convio for open source.  ::)

I won that battle but thought it was better to stop while I was ahead.  ;D
