Drupal website login with civic membership sign-up?
October 07, 2008, 01:54:02 pm
Hi -

I run a membership organization, and we have installed drupal (5) and civic to run our website and manage our membership.

We would like to have a members only portion of our website, where members can view restricted content.   Ideally, we would like to have a user create their drupal website login at the same time as becoming a member (e.g. create username/password on the contribute page).   Beyond sending users through a series of linked pages, is there a way to do this?

Thanks so much!

Look in the settings on the contribute page for the "Use Drupal Login" check box -- which links the contrib form and allows them to create a drupal account at the same time. The civi info and the drupal account will be linked.

As far as members only content you might want to check out the civimember roles module, which would allow you to sync paid memberships with a certain drupal role. That drupal role can be set up to have access to content that isn't available to anonymous users (or even regular old authenticated users if you want).

Thanks...!  I double checked and I cannot find the drupal enable option anywhere.  (I checked all of the contribute settings, as well as most of the others).   Do you happen to know which menu option it is under?

And thanks for the roles heads up.  I downloaded it last week, and am about to enable it.  :-)

The "Drupal user account registration option?" is actually part of Profile Settings. You will have to include at least one Profile in your membership sign up form and enable this setting under the "Advanced Settings" portion of the settings form. The embedded profile could be used to collect member first and last name, address info, custom fields related to profession, areas of interest, group / mailing list signup, etc.

If you already have a profile included in your membership signup page, then you simply need to go to it's setttings and check the box.
If you don't have a profile, you'll need to create one - start by reading the Profiles doc on the wiki:

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Profiles+Admin

... then include it in your membership signup page (Manage Contribution Pages >> Configure >> Include Profiles)

If you have some ideas for how to document this better so other folks have an easier time - please take some time to add to / improve the documentation on the wiki!
