Greetings...

During the remove tags/groups from contact(s) process, are any "bits and pieces" of data created when the tags or groups were applied left in a table(s)?

As an analogy, some Windows uninstall programs leave pieces of data in the registry from a program's original installation. The registry can gradually "bloat" over time with scraps of data.

I was about to remove several tags and groupings from a few thousand records and wondered about this. How does this unfold in Civicrm? I didn't know what table(s) to check on my own.

Doug - In general do remove table entries when tags are removed. For groups we deliberately maintain a record of the fact that the contact WAS in a group and now has been removed.

Tag assignments are stored in civicrm_entity_tag.
Group "subscriptions" are tracked in civicrm_group_contact and civicrm_subscription_history.
