New to CiviCRM and CiviContribute
October 07, 2008, 10:53:38 pm
Hi,

I am working to implement Civicrm for a client but I am pretty new to it. I have not downloaded it yet.

Problem:
I tried to click on the link provided in the earlier posts but the page returns "access denied" although I have already registered for the 2.1 demo site. Please Advise!

I have tried the demo and built a contribution page. Here are a few questions regarding managing contributions:
1. Can the admin enter contribution details on behalf of members?
2. Are we able to link the contributor/honoree to an existing member record? how?
3. I saw that the honoree section did not have an address field. I believe that I can add one. Am I correct?

Thanks!

Yes via the backend (http://your.civicrm.site/administrator).

If you mean 'can the organisation enter new memberships itself (e.g. via a posted-in or faxed-in form)' then just enter the contact into the database, go to their record and under the memberships tab and click 'New Membership'. Obviously you need to have first configured your membership types - details are in the documentation wiki at http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Membership+Types.

If you mean 'can the organisation enter details of new contributions (donations)', then you make sure the details of the donor are in the database, move to their record, and under the contributions tab you click 'record contribution.

If I understand you correctly, then the answer is yes - see above.

But if you mean that you want to somehow indicate a relationship b/w a contributor or honoree and an existing member then the relationships function might suit your needs. Would need more detail on what you mean here to be sure though.
