Got in trouble with inocrrect set up for mailings -- can we salvage replies?
October 14, 2008, 02:44:06 pm
Our organization sent out several mass mailings to a list of 1,500 people and just now discovered that we had used opt-out email addresses instead of URL's, and there was no set up on the mail server to handle that (or bounces for that matter).

We have one general email account that has received all of the opt-outs and bounces.  Is is possible to process these emails from the general email account even now?

Any help *greatly* appreciated.

I guess you will have to do this manually for each contact. So Contact Summary >> Groups and then remove them from respective group.

If it’s IMAP-accessible, you should be able to process it using imap2soap.

If it’s not, I’m creating a PHP tool that should do this for all of mbox/Maildir/IMAP/POP3, but it’s a tool for 2.2 and we won’t support it for 2.1 – but you can be the prime testers of it if you agree to all the caveats. :)

It should be done by the end of the week (but don’t hold your breath on this date).

Piotr,

Let me know when you finish.  We might be interested in this to clean up our list.

In the mean time, after looking at what was required for the mail setup, I just signed up for CiviSMTP.  Hopefully that will work better for us going forward.

Ah, sorry, forgot to ping this thread – there’s a new one here about the new scripts (but I’ll be most probably further hacking on them later today).
