installation possible without incoming mail?
October 15, 2008, 10:10:52 am
With the URL links for mailing list opt-ins it seems possible to create a CiviCRM installation without an incoming mailbox (amavis).  Is this correct or is there a catch that I'm missing?

Thanks,
Chris

the two cases that are missing are

1. handling bounces (specifically deferred/slow bounces)

2. handling reply-to's

Both of these can be resolved using imap2soap

…or patched AMaViS, if you need a real-time solution.

ok, thanks.

was thinking about a new installation and wondering if there was a way to avoid the issue all together.

bounces and reply-to's are the catch

Well, if you want to be an alpha/betatester of an unsupported PHP replacement for imap2soap, I’ll have something in trunk by the end of the week (I actually already do)… :)

Piotr,
If you point me in the right direction on the trunk with some instructions on how to setup I'll have a look.  I'm working on stable releases (2.1.1)  so testing this may be feasible if it is a modular piece that I could pull out rather than require a checkout of the trunk.
