emailing a contact
October 16, 2008, 11:22:10 am
I've gone in to the contact and the email isn't marked as on hold. I have not been able to set up the email params properly though. There is clearly something wrong with my SMTP settings and I don't know how to check w/ the server to see if it needs SMTP authentication or not - and if it does - what user / password it requires. I made an email account for it to point to - although it doesn't work when SMTP auth is on.

How to troubleshoot?

The error message:
Please correct the following errors in the form fields below:

    * The selected email address is On Hold because the maximum number of delivery attempts has failed. If you have been informed that the problem with this address is resolved, you can take the address off Hold by editing the contact record. Otherwise, you will need to try an different email address for this contact.

When I send mail from the contact record.

Other PHP mailing apps are working off our server w/o SMTP authentication on - so I have tried to turn this off, remove the SMTP username and SMTP password (from config file)...

Nothing seems to be working.

Please advise.

civicrm v1.9

This also fails to work from CiviMail...

Can you check with your server administrator for the SMTP settings?
