Unsubscribe Token problem - unsubscribe.1.43.810.ac13aa36a12df768684528bbed978b9

I'm confused as to how the {action.unsubscribe} and {action.OptOut} tokens are supposed to work.

(1) In my mailing, I've put the following tokens in my message footer:

<span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Helvetica;">
This email is sent from:<br/>
<br >Coalition Against Beavers<br/>
{domain.address}<br/>
<br>To unsubscribe from this E-Newsletter, send an email to  <a href="{action.unsubscribe}">ssu@nyccah.org</a>.
<br/>

(2) The output comes out in the HTML preview like this:

This email is sent from:

Coalition Against Beavers
111 Beaver Street, Beaver, NC 11111

To unsubscribe from this E-Newsletter, send an email to ssu@nyccah.org.

So far, so good...

(3) When I click on the link to unsubscribe, it sends an email to this address: unsubscribe.1.43.810.ac13aa36a12df768684528bbed978b97c7e02265@mail.nyccah.org

--------------------
Problem: Ultimately, I want the unsubscribe email to go to: ssu@nyccah.org.

How come the address comes out as unsubscribe.1.43.810.ac13aa36a12df768684528bbed978b97c7e02265@mail.nyccah.org?

Where can I modify this?

The unsubscribe and optout links are generated automatically by the system. You cannot override them (in 2.1 and prior)

Ok, but if people want to unsubscribe to the newsletter, the email should be sent to an actual email address (ssu@nyccah.org).

Is there a workaround this token to get it to do that, since the {action.unsubsribe} token is required?

If you are wanting to do the work manually then remove the token  ;) if you want civiCRM to handle the unsubscribing automatically then leave the token in - and in that case you may want to replace "unsubscribe by emailing xyz" to "unsubscribe by clicking here' types of message.

Hi,
Is there a particular reason that you are using {action.unsubscribe} as opposed to {action.unsubscribeUrl} ? I believe the latter is the "preferred" method of communication.

Hi peterd,

Ok, I think I understand where you're going.  So yes, ideally, I would like civiCRM to handle the automatic unsubscription.  When I send an email to unsubscribe.1.43.810.ac13aa36a12df768684528bbed978b97c7e02265@mail.nyccah.org, I get a bounce back as follows:

------------------------------------------------------------
This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

    unsubscribe.1.43.810.ac13aa36a12df768684528bbed978b97c7e02265@mail.nyccah.org

Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 553 553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.5.3 - chkuser) (state 14).

I see, but isn't {action.unsubscribe} one of the mandatory tokens that is required for all CiviMail mailings?  Or can it be swapped with {action.unsubscribeUrl}?

Yes, you can use either version of the opt-out action.

Yes, I would like people who want to unsubscribe to send an email directly to an existing email address.  That being said, how do I get the unsubscribe token to email directly to an email address (i.e., ssu@nyccah.org), as opposed to this automatic unsubscribe email address: unsubscribe.1.43.810.ac13aa36a12df768684528bbed978b97c7e02265@mail.nyccah.org

Hi Lobo,

Ok, but since we want to handle the unsubscribe/optout via a specific email (for now), is there a way for that specific email adddress to override the token?

Thanks!

You will need to hack the code to meet your needs. If you want to do so, please contact us on IRC:
