manage purchase history or attendance with CiviCRM?

Maybe this belongs under "is CiviCRM good for me"...

Could we import purchase history, perhaps as a custom activity type? Idea being to search our most frequent shoppers.

And, is there some module or other ideas of capturing members' attendance? E.g. they visit our museum, we scan their card, and it's recorded as an activity or some other event in CiviCRM. Or, even if we imported the activity, could answer the following questions with CiviCRM:
  • How often do people with X membership type really visit the museum?
  • What percentage of our members don't renew after the first year?

Thanks for your suggestions!

You can easily create custom activity types for purchases and museum visits. Past activities can be imported via Import Activities (but you'll first have to import / create the contact records).

CiviCRM will store the data needed to answer questions like the 2 you've posed. However, the built-in Advanced Search and Search Builder functions might not return the "answers" in the way you want. You should explore those on the public demo, and then look at an example of a custom search that was built / contributed by a community member which returns activities by date, type, etc.

Note that once you've got a custom search with the input criteria and output columns you need - you can export to spreadsheets, trigger mailings etc. from that search.

Thanks much for the suggestion. Got a lot to learn, and am excited about what I'm finding here.

Cheers,
