installed... then blank

So I've read through every post possible, can't get Joomla 1.5.6 and CiviCRM 2.1 to work.  This is a fresh install as I had CiviCRM 2.0.5 on before and I completely removed it.  I have followed all directions exactly for installation, uploading com_civicrm to administrator/components/com_installer and then used the Joomla installer.  It never gave me confirmation of completion, however it does appear in the dropdown under components in the backend and all sub-components (events, admin, contribute etc) are there.

max_execution_time    600
memory_limit              128M
max_input_time           60

I believe that I have all the correct file permissions and settings.  What could be going on to cause the links in the backend to just make the pages blank (no code when I view source) no error messages.

I have checked the apache logs, and there is nothing about failed processes.  Thanks in advance for any help.

Usually indicates a timeout OR the files weren't fully copied during install.
Check components/com_civicrm/ AND administrator/components/com_civicrm/
to see if the files were copied to the folders.

they were all copied over and i wouldn't think timeout with the limits as I described.

So... I found that the civicrm.settings.php was missing for some reason, so I uploaded the only version I had, which was from 2.0.5.  All is fine so far, except when adding the menu item through Joomla, there are no choices for the "basic parameters"

Hi,

Having the same problem: ending up in a blank page with Joomla 1.5.7 and CRM 2.1

I notice the same file missing, but it is not mentiond in the civicrm.xml  in the installation package.

- <files folder="admin">
  <filename>admin.civicrm.php</filename>
  <filename>toolbar.civicrm.php</filename>
  <filename>toolbar.civicrm.html.php</filename>
  <filename>install.civicrm.php</filename>
  <filename>uninstall.civicrm.php</filename>
  <filename>configure.php</filename>
  <folder>civicrm</folder>
  </files>

as you see: no civicrm.settings.php file mentioned.

IS this file needed or is there something else the problem?
I am using Xamp as a local webserver.

I get all links (nonworking) in the dropdown under components when my install fails (and I get a failed install message) so typically I would think your install did not complete.
