Sorry if this is already covered but I notice that CRM-1624 seems to indicate that manually entering a contribution of type "member dues" doesn't trigger a membership renewal. I'm using  1.7.9379 on joomla 1.0.12.

and does this relate to the following feature request
"One-click offline membership renewal (with option to create contribution record automatically and send receipt/confirmation) " which is apparently postponed to 1.8

Lesley - You are correct. The "one-click membership renewal feature is postponed to 2.x - so offline renewal requires updating the Membership record End Date and then entering a contribution. HOWEVER, one piece of good news is that you can automatically generate a receipt when you enter an offline contirbution in 1.8 AND you can even post a live contribution record on behalf of a member which will generate the "live" transaction if you're member has provided you with their credit card info.
