Can I use CiviCRM for my university project ?

Hi to all, i want to ask

Can I use CiviCRM for my university project ?  Abilities and license

I want to use civicrm and joomla 1.0.15 for for university project. It will be a system  for requesting, view, tracking   equipment usage.
Simply explaining; university has an equipment and wants to give out it for lease to scientists.  People or firms will be able to see all equipment list, choose appropriate and (maybe) pay for it.
So i want to build resourse booking system.   :)

I checked out admins interface, its great. But i am not sure: will i be able to allow clients to list their booked equipment in the front end?
With the abilities to track time of booking every single equipment in list type (table with fields), see history of his transactions and so on?

As i understand, i can use civicrm for nonprofit organisations, so i can use civicrm absolutely free for this, right?
university i think is not commercial organisation

thanx

1. yes, u can use civicrm for any organization (for profit/non profit etc) as long as you follow the license (AGPL v3)

2. I'd recommend u use J! 1.5 and Civi 2.1 since that is the latest supported version

3. With regard to your specific booking equipment needs, you'll need to figure out how you want to model it in CiviCRM. I suspect you will need to write a front end component and some custom code for your needs
