Disable Relationship -- autofill end date
October 21, 2008, 04:50:33 pm
When a relationship is disabled, I think the end date field should be auto-filled. I actually thought that this was the standard behavior, but was working with someone in v2.1.1 today and noticed that disabling did not have that effect.

When a relationship is disabled, it is basically NOT active. And if the relationship's end date is past, it is a past relationship.

In general, we show those relationships in "Inactive Relationships" selector that are either Disabled OR have a past End Date.
IMO there is no connection between disabled & past relationships.

I would argue that a relationship ends either by setting a date ahead of time, OR by manually disabling it. Either way, the relationship ceases to be active, and that cessation happens on a certain date, which would seem to be the end date, regardless of the circumstances.

My clients mostly use relationships for the employer-employee relationship, and disabling generally happens when a person retires or moves from one company to another. In either case, it's most frequently handled by just disabling the relationship. And that's where it would be useful to automatically capture the date that manual disabling took place.

I'm bringing one perspective -- I definitely would like to hear what others think, and whether this behavior would become problematic for anyone.
