CiviMember relation to CiviContribute
October 26, 2008, 09:36:15 pm
Drupal 5.3
CiviCRM 1.9

What is the relationship between CiviMember and CiviContribute?  We are not doing online contributions using CiviContribute at this time.  Memberships are paid for by check or through a standard Paypal form.

CiviMember has memberships, but not dollar amounts.  CiviContrbute may have membership type and a dollar amount.  Are others adding memberships and doing a separate task to add the dollar amount of the contribution under CiviContribute?

In some ways it seems like a waste of time to enter the membership dollar amounts in CiviContribute after adding the membership in CiviContribute.  Are there plans to be able to add the contribution on the membership add form?   It is very nice to have all the membership and donation amounts in CiviContribute for those that we have added.

How are others adding membership and donations to their accounting system?  Are you booking the members individually or the total for a time period?

Thanks.

Dave,

One-step membership signup/event registration for admin offline payments was added in v2.0
One-step for both admin offline and online (credit card) was included in v2.1

One-step offline as a "pay later" option for frontend users was added in v2.0
One-step online for frontend users has been available since at least 1.8, to my recollection.

By "one-step" I mean the ability to create a membership record or event registration and record the corresponding payment within a single step, and such that there is a connection between the membership/event record and it's corresponding contribution record. v2.1 significantly improves (in my opinion) how that connection is made visible to the admin.

Prior to v2.0, everything processed through the admin side had to be done as a two step process -- create membership, then create contribution -- and there was actual connection between the two records.
