CiviCRM as a backdrop to multiple Drupal organic group sites
October 28, 2008, 04:17:43 am
Hi,

I am wondering whether anyone has had experience with setting up a CiviCRM site with active links to multiple Drupal sites using organic groups for registration.. i.e. when users register on a drupal site an account is created in CiviCRM. Also an Organic Group and its admin/moderator automatically have a an account set up as per the activated sync.

What would be useful is a hub CiviCRM that the host can administer to map out and communicate with users of the drupal sites. Each of the Drupal sites represents a particular community then local government area then state.

An assistance is greatly appreciated... trying to find the most effective solution!

thanks

Since CiviCRM v2.0 I don't think we support multiple Drupal sites (e.g. user table instances) synching to a single CiviCRM DB. So if that's what you mean by "multiple Drupal organic group sites" - I don't think it's possible w/o non-trivial code changes.

Caveat that other folks on the team are working on enhancements to better support complex organization structures (USPIRG project) - which may provide alternatives ?? Others should chime in here if relevant.

Thanks for your response... yes that what I was thinking re one CiviCRM tied to multiple Drupal sites.

An interesting way I thought could be through the Organic Group Sites Module that apparently links multiple Drupal sites together through the Organic Groups module registering them centrally on a single database on a hub site. I though this could then be able to link automatically through the Organic Groups Sync already in place with CiviCRM???

I believe the Organic Groups Site module still has some advancements to be done but apparently it works (see http://drupal.org/project/og_sites)... I just can't seem to work out yet how to do the prefixing.

Another interesting module worth associating is the Dommain Access module that can bring together multiple sites to a central site but is not using Organic Groups (http://drupal.org/project/domain)

Thanks for you input again and anyone else that interested in looking at the how to?!
