Can't open installer php file -- very strange
October 28, 2008, 07:56:00 am
Yesterday I uninstalled CiviCRM on my test site, deleted the CiviCRM tables, and installed a new, clean version, 2.0.6. All looks good on the test site.

Today I am following the same steps for the live site, nccommunities.org. When I go to the installer

http://nccommunities.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/drupal/install/index.php

I get a Popup window:

You have chosen to open
index.php
which is a PHP file
from http://nccommunities.org
What should Firefox do with this file?
Open with ...
Save file

I can open http://nccommunities.org/phpinfo.php OK, so my browser does open .php files OK.

I tried it with a different browser and got the same type of popup.

I removed the civicrm directory and downloaded a fresh copy. Same problem.

I'm about to give up and do a manual install, but wondered if someone might have an idea of what's wrong.

My hosting service provider says:

I don't know what's going on, but if you take the index.php off the end, it works (sort of, there are errors on the page).  If I had to guess, I'd guess that there's a rewrite rule or some other site configuration that's doing weird things with the index.php causing it not to be run through PHP but sent as a file to the browser.

But that doesn't work. I get error messages, including: "Oops! - The CiviCRM settings file (civicrm.settings.php) was not found in the expected location " -- because the installer hasn't run.

I did a manual install. Looks like it's working OK.
