We'd really like to be able to include membership fields in emails ie renewal reminders

Last word from Lobo was

"not available as of 2.1 and not planned for a future release

a patch to extend the token system and make it all powerful would be gratefully accepted'

would the patch be difficult - just wondering if our org could chip in funds to assist this.
also the automatic email sent when one does an offline membership join or renewal includes just the membership fields we'd be wanting.
Is there some way of adapting this to use as a reminder letter?

I'd be great if you present how you use the membership offline (and online too)?

I dont think the patch is trivial for the general case. In 2.2 the token system is being extended via hooks. This should allow folks to add / extend the token system more easily, at which time i think the patch for this becomes easier

are you sending the renewal reminder manually or via UpdateMembershipRecord?

Would this apply to adding Contribution tokens to use in Templates around Donor Thank You Notes?

What we're wishing to do is search on contributions with the Thank You date not set, then send them each an email based on the contribution found in that particular search. That's where the contribution tokens would be amazing. If there were an action to set the Thank You date at the time of this mailing, that would be great.

If Civi is close, perhaps you can point me to the best API section and i'll see if i can crank something out.
