The usage of group and memberships in a database with more then one domain.
October 30, 2008, 02:07:21 am
Hello,

I am using a database with more then one domain and somehow it seems that civi does not except group definition for each domain.
The same problem occures with the memberships and if I add the group with the API.

Thanks a lot,
Martin

Martin - Can you update your forum profile so we know what version of CiviCRM, your CMS, PHP and MySQL you're using. Also would help to provide much more specific description of what steps you're doing in CiviCRM and what errors or unexpected results you're seeing. Finally, note that multiple domain support has been eliminated from CiviCRM as of v2.0 so you may need to look at other approaches.

OK, I have added some information to my profile. Hope that's enough.  :)
(Sorry for not giving the info at the beginning.)

I did make a multi-site configuration for a customer.
The site contains one major group and let's say 50 to 250 smaller groups.
The major group has it's own domain and own mysql database.
Every other group has a domain in one extra database.

If I read your answer well, then I have create a mysql database for each group.
Mmmm, lot's of work. But if that's neccessary OK.

Each group needs it's own CRM enviroment.
What do you suggest ?

Thanks a lot,
Martin

Not sure what you mean by the above statement? If you mean it's multi-site in Drupal - with all sites pointing to the same CiviCRM DB - then you might want to investigate using ACL's on the groups to limit access for each group to their "own" contacts. However, with 50 to 250 groups, this might get ugly. So second suggestion is to see whether the ACL hook model implemented by lobo with / for the NZ Green Party might fit your needs.

I will study your suggestion.
That will be a lot of work.  ;)
