footer not showing in emails to individual contacts

hi,
i've got CiviMail set up & mostly working ok, but when i send email to individual contacts (as opposed to a group mailing) it seems to be impossible to get the footer to show up. i've tried using a template which i've saved from the group mailing process, that definitely has the header selected, but it never shows up.

it seems like it should be a logical & easy thing, to either have the default footer show up automatically or else a dropdown menu on the send an email screen to choose which footer you want to appear on the email. maybe i've missed something ... ?

the send email to contacts mail code does not use the header/footer from civimail

If you need the footer, you'll need to cut-n-paste it for every mail. If you'd like to automate this, you'll need to do by adding code to fix the forms etc

thanks - good to know i wasn't missing something basic, but it seems like it would be a sensible feature to include, no? there could be a dropdown menu on the send an email screen where you could choose to add a footer ... (i'm not a programmer but it doesn't sound like a difficult thing to add).

There are no plans in 2.2 to upgrade the "send email" functionality. You can achieve the same by using message templates with a footer which is part of the template (thats the purpose of message templates)

I dont think adding an option to add header/footer section to email is worth it considering the message template feature.

If this is important to you, consider hiring someone to implement this for your org

maybe i'm still not understanding something - but when i send an individual email (from the contact's dashboard) & select a template that definitely has a footer in it (because that shows up when i send a group email) - it doesn't have a footer on it when i receive the email.

so i'm a bit confused ...

The header/footer comes from the civimail forms and not the message template. hence u see it in a group email

for the "send email" case, you will need to create a message template with the footer being part of the template
