Contact Search Options
November 01, 2008, 10:25:45 am
This may actually be a feature suggestion (in which case I can log it in the bug tracker), but it seems to me like there's no way to search for a list of all contacts where something like an e-mail address or address is or is not some value WITHOUT specifying a sub-type of contact info.  Specifically, what I mean is that you have to say that you want a list of all contacts where the PRIMARY e-mail address is not null (for instance).  In some typical real world situations, you really don't care whether it's the primary e-mail address, the secondary, the billing address, the home address, etc.  You just want the address or e-mail address list (especially for mailings and e-newsletters).  It seems like throughout CiviCRM there should be a "Any" sub-type that just retrieves contacts without a sub-type specified.

Is this already in CiviCRM (and I'm missing it)?  Or does this need to be logged as a suggestion?  Thanks!

You can log it as a suggestion in the feature requests and suggestions board: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/board,18.0.html

Note that suggestions with a patch attached to them have a significantly higher chance of making it into a future release
