I want to import my contacts from another database. There are a couple of fields that I want to include as basic information in the contacts. How do I add custom fields to the contacts?
I've read the wiki and I understand how to create a custom group and add custom data to that group. but since the contact group already exists I just want to add 3 fields to it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Creating more fields to be used when adding, editing, viewing and importing contact records requires these steps:

* From Administer CiviCRM >> Custom Data, create a new Custom Group with "Used For" = Contacts. Decide if you want these fields to be displayed and edited in the main edit / view pages OR in a separate "tab" (Display = Inline or Tab).

* Now add your fields to the group.

You should then see those fields when you go to do an import mapping, add a contact, etc.
