Gift Aid
November 06, 2008, 10:07:37 am
Hello,

I'm not sure whether this is the appropriate forum in which to post, but I thought I'd post here since the topic of Gift Aid is quite UK-specific.

Have other people got CiviCRM to track Gift Aid declarations and contributions for which Gift Aid money can be requested? If so, how have you gone about it.

I'm building a donations tracking system for an organisation that needs to track the start and end (validity) dates of any gift aid declarations received from donors. Then, once or twice a year they would like to generate a report that lists all the donations received from individuals who have a gift aid declaration valid for the date that the donation was made. They would then use that report to request the Gift Aid funds. I figure that it would be good to somehow tag the donations included in that report so that there is a record that Gift Aid had been claimed on them.

One idea was to actually use CiviMember to track the Gift Aid declarations and then produce the reports of donations for which Gift Aid applies. However, I don't see any way to do a search for, say, all donations in the last year in which the donor was a 'Gift Aid member' on the day of donation.

Maybe I am making this too complicated and there is an easier way? How have others dealt with tracking Gift Aid in CiviCRM?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Best wishes,
-Ian Macdonald

Hi there Ian,

Good idea to also post this question in the Using CiviCRM forum - http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,5476.0.html - and very glad that you have found a solution.

Gift aid often comes up in UK discussions so any time you fancy demonstrating your solution to other UK users at a usergroup meeting - and seeing if we can improve it in any way (more automated, perhaps?) - you would be more than welcome!

I think there was a blog post about this a while ago, and there was this thread on the forum. Has anyone got a working gift aid patch for CiviCRM and if so, it is something that others could use/could be submitted as a general patch to CiviCRM?

There is more about this here http://civicrm.org/blogs/michaelmcandrew/gift-aid here http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/Gift+aid+requirements and here http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/Gift+Aid+report
But it all seems to have stalled in February. I know that lots of people want this so perhaps some more input before dev camp in London could kick start things?

i'm in an email conversation with the folks who wrote it and hoping to get the code published soon (this week?)

in general, would be great for folks who write code that might be useful to the community to put it in a public svn repository :)

Any luck with this?

I'm looking into Civi as a Donor Strategy replacement; this is the one and only sticking point - Civi is far better in every other respect! Really hope we can get the Gift Aid thing worked out. I'm happy to work on any mods needed if we could see the code?

Hi marieidat,

Yes it is stalled at the moment but we have a series of events coming up at the end of this month where we will be able to work on this.  If you are considering CiviCRM as a Donor Strategy replacement you should really come along to our training events that we have coming up at the end of the month.  They are a great way to learn CiviCRM and also to meet all the folks in the CiviCRM community both in the UK and further afield.

Feel free to call me on 07817 802299 if you would like to talk more about Giftaid or the training events.

This looks great, are there any plans to upgrade it to Drupal 7 compatibility?

Thanks!

Not on our current short term list (since the current client set does not need the D7 version)

However i think it is a fairly easy upgrade. If you can do so that would be great, please submit a patch with an issue if you do the needful

Hi,

The blog link above says 'The module currently works with Drupal but Joomla integration (thanks to Joomkit for their sponsorship) should follow within the month.'

I can't work out whether this Joomla integration was completed. Could someone point me in the right direction if it was done?

Cheers,

Dave

This did not happen since when we were done with giftaid, JoomKit did not require this feature

I suspect is a 20 hour project or so (the main thing would involve how to ensure the module code works for both drupal and joomla with minimal changes from a developer perspective)

Sounds like a candidate for a Make it Happen project, perhaps? Presumably it would also need some work to work in both platforms in both 3.4 and 4.0.
