CiviMember not setting Expired status
November 07, 2008, 10:30:22 am
On UrbanMinistry.org, we have thousands of member records which have passed their End Date. However, none of them have been set by CiviMember into the Expired status. Is this a known bug or are there any reasons that might cause this?

Here are the rules that we are using:
New           join date   join date
Current   start date   end date
Grace           end date   end date
Expired   end date   join date
Pending   join date   end date

Should we change the rules in order to get the Expired status to actually take effect?

Hey Evan. you'll need to configure a cron job that runs a script to update membership records.  It is explained on the wiki here:

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Membership+Types

There also may be some helpful info on this post: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php?topic=1981.0

hope this helps

IMHO a notice needs to be posted "in program" that bin/UpdateMembershipRecord.php needs to be configured as a cronjob in order for this functionality to work.   A lot of incorrect assumptions seem to be getting made regarding this.

mentioned in the docs here:

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Command-line+Script+Configuration
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Membership+Types

where else should we mention it?

Thanks, I realize it's in the docs, but I've installed CiviMember for 3 different clients over a 9 month period and myself and technical staff at all the clients had all overlooked it.  So, IMHO the information about the CronJob is not prominent enough.

You should put a sentance on this page mentioning the Cronjob, IMHO.
