Migrating CiviCRM with a Joomla Migration
November 08, 2008, 06:50:21 pm
I recently installed Joomla 1.5.7 and CiviCRM 2.1 in www.domain.org/beta.  I've developed a new verision of my website and migrated the Joomla site to www.domain.org after deleting the old CMS.  I ran into some trouble with lost Administrator files in Joomla, but I've got the site up and running, exept for the CiviCRM component.

I can see CiviCRM in the component list on my Joomla admin page, but when I select any of the CiviCRM menu items I get this error message: "404 - An error has occurred. Component not found."

I think some of the CiviCRM files may have been lost from subfiles (that's what happened with files in my Joomla Administrator folder).  The MySQL database is intact (all my Joomla articles appeared after I reinstalled Joomla).

I tried reinstalling CiviCRM through the Joomla install/uninstall, but it wouldn't install because there are remnants of CiviCRM still there.

What can I do to get CiviCRM up and running again without loosing all the data I've entered?

Mike

p.s. CiviCRM has been a huge blessing!

i would do the following

1. make a backup of the entire site and db

2. remove all civicrm related directories

3. install a new version of civicrm and follow the upgrade instructions (http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Upgrade+Joomla+Sites+to+2.1). Ensure that you set upgrade mode to true

Lobo,

Thanks for the recommendations.  I followed them and I think I’m almost there.

After following the upgrade instructions at (http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Upgrade+Joomla+Sites+to+2.1).

CiviCRM installed successfully

In step #5 I did the following:
•   Point your web browser to the following URL (you should already be logged in to Joomla with administrator-level permissions):
•   http://<your_joomla_home>/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/install/upgrade.php.

And this is the error message that appeared:
Sorry. A non-recoverable error has occurred.
Database check failed - looks like you have already upgraded to the latest version (v2.1) of the database.
Return to home page.

I opened CiviCRM through the Administrator page and my data is there!

However, I'm seeing three problems.

#1 When I click on CiviCRM topmenu items: CiviCRM Home / Find Contacts / Manage Groups / etc.  the correct page opens but the bottom of the browser says: Done, but with errors on the page.

#2 When I click on the vertical menu on the left side of the page
* CiviCRM
* Find Contacts
* Manage Groups
* etc.

and in the links in the Administrator CiviCRM page and other pages opened from the top menu I get this error message:

"Not Found
The requested URL /beta/administrator/index2.php was not found on this server."

The requested URL should be /administrator/index2.php.

#3 When I open a contact I can see the contact's information, i can see:

Mike Klev (Mike)                         » View Contact Dashboard     » View User Record
Job Title:    Current Employer:  Website:

But the menu with Contribute / Groups / Pledges / Events / etc. is missing.

It appears to that one or more file is still pointing to www.domain.org/beta instead of www.domain.org.   Somehow after removing all CiviCRM related directories and reinstalling CiviCRM twice, CiviCRM is still looking for files in domain.org/beta instead of domain.org

Any suggestion on which file(s) I need to open to remove /beta from the URL?

Or is there something else I need to do that I'm not seeing?

This might help. You might want to start by manually changing your settings file. Do at own risk please, make backups!

lobo and clearlytechnical,

Thanks for you help.  I'm 99.9% back in business.  I recruited web developer to help me fix the problem.  The problem was in the database where CiviCRM was being pointed to the old URL (www.domain.org/beta).  He helped me remove /beta from all the tables where it still remained and nearly everything started working correctly.

The only thing not working is my contact dashboard.  When I select it in the backend or through a menu in the front end I get this error message.

Sorry. A non-recoverable error has occured.
Invalid value passed to getPayment function.
Return to home page.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what is happening and how to fix it?

By the way, in my effort to get CiviCRM reinstalled and running I upgraded to 2.1.1 from 2.1
