Allow anonymous users to post events
November 11, 2008, 01:40:16 pm
Greetings from a CiviCRM newb. I've got a client that has a web site based on a 100% custom built PHP event calendar. They allow anyone (without registering) to create an event for a community event calendar and then they manually remove the few spam or offensive entries as needed. I've been trying to sell them on switching to a CMS like Joomla or Drupal to no avail, but I just discovered CiviCRM and am asking them to look at it and see if it's something they would be interested in using. The only problem so far is that I see no way to allow unregistered users to create events which is something my client's calendar must be able to do (users must supply a valid email address though). I wonder if there might be something in the works to allow CiviEvents to be created by anonymous users (or if there's another event calendar module that might work better for us). The user would just specify a password for their event to let them edit it and there would need to be a simple password retrieval mechanism so the event creator could retrieve their password. Obviously this would need to bypass all the payment and user account functionality of the standard CiviEvents, though I could also envision some way of allowing the event creator to specify a paypal account for payments even if they are anonymous. Anyway, if anyone has any thoughts or recommendations on this I'd love to hear them.

i dont think the civievent model is a good fit for your application. you might want to check some other joomla extensions/drupal modules that might better fit your needs. Allowing anon users to create events is not part of the roadmap (for now)
