newbie question-- re new user - logged in page
November 17, 2008, 08:27:53 am
Hi,

I am running CiviCRM2.1 with Drupal 6.0. I am very new to this and am still trying to get my head around a few bits and pieces.

My main question at the moment is that I have set up and i'm testing a site that has all the sample data in it to play with. My question is when someone logs in, I wold like them to be able to search for the organisations or memberships, so that they can pledge, contribute or join. I am sure I have the permissions correct, hopefully. But on the login page, there is only a story, blog and edit info areas.

Am I missing something fundamental here?

Thanks,

George.

Hello and welcome,
Based on what you said, here are my suggestions:
1. Go to Administer/Modules and make sure that the CiviCRM 2.1 module is enabled
2. Go to Administer/Blocks and make sure the CiviCRM menu is enabled

If the above is no help, please post back with more detail about your configuration and we will try again.

Hi Cynthia,

Thank you for replying to my question. I have both of those (module & block) enabled. But I understand that they have different configuration. Can you let me know what type of further information you would like me to provide? Below is what has no blocks and what is disabled.

Does it look different than our demo installation?

Are you sure that the new Drupal users have proper permissions?

yes, it is identical to your demo site.

And no, i am not sure I have the permissions correct. Last time i played with them I locked (access denied) every user out of the site.

I would be grateful if you could point me in the direction of some examples of permissions.

Thank you for replying and your help.

George.

Hm, then you should see the CiviCRM links in the left sidebar, much like when you login with demo/demo…

Once you login as the first user you created, go to Administer → User management → Permissions (the URL should be …admin/user/permissions).

Dear Gardagh,
I am finding the words that we are using confusing, so at the risk of asking you the same thing twice, let me ask you to verify something for us:
Step 1
1. Click on "Administer"
2. Under "Site Building", click on "Modules"
3. Scroll down until you see CiviCRM 2.1
4. The box to the left of CiviCRM 2.1 should be checked

Step 2
1. Click on "Administer"
2. Under "Site Building", click on "Blocks"
3. Make sure the "civicrm menu" is enabled

Step 3
1. Click on "Administer"
2. Click on "User Management" and then on "Permissions"
3. Make sure authenticated users have permission to "access CiviCRM"

Let us know how this goes.

Cynthia

Hi Cynthia,

Thank you for your help. It is sorted now. My problem lay in the blocks. I had not configured it for authenticated users. My confusion came because I had the permissions set up already.

Anyway, thank you all for your help with this. I'm sure i'll be back again!!!

George.
