Renew membership for current member
November 19, 2008, 07:41:54 am
Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere...it seems like a problem that would occur frequently, but I couldn't find any docs on it in the wiki or forum.

Our 200+ members are renewing their memberships for the upcoming calendar year. Their current memberships expire 12/31/2008. However, the three payments which have already been processed and completed have not renewed their memberships through 2009; the end date remains 2008, although the new contribution is now listed in CiviContribute.

I'm assuming this is happening because the payment is being made while these members' memberships are still Current. I can use the manual "Renew" link, but I'm wondering if there is a way to process the membership renewal with the correct end date and link it to the correct CiviContribute record. I would appreciate any advice.

A renewal (whether offline or self-service / online) should add the membership period to the membership end date regardless of whether their existing status is "Current". We'll need more info to understand what's happening in your case.

* Please update your forum profile to show the version of CiviCRM, your CMS, PHP and MySQL versions
* Describe how your membership type is configured (e.g. fixed or rolling period, if fixed - rollover period, etc.)
* Describe how the 3 renewals came in - i.e. entered by staff from contact's Membership tab vs. user when to online contribution page to renew etc.
* For these 3 renewals, where  the associated contribution records linked to the correct contact (i.e. the existing member) - or was a new contact record created?

Thanks Dave--your second item got me thinking about how the memberships were configured. I think I've found the problem; the rollover day was set at 12/31, giving members no window for renewals. I've since set it for mid-November. If this doesn't fix the problem, I will post again.
