Realex Payment Processor ( Irish / Ireland ) Direct Debit and Credit Card
November 20, 2008, 04:32:53 am
Hi,

I wonder could anyone advise me on how to find a developer and get a reasonable cost to develop the payment gateway for CiviCRM for this company.

Their API is outlined:

http://sites.google.com/a/igive.ie/realex/Home/realeftdeveloperguidev1.3.1.pdf?attredirects=0

They are the market leader in Ireland and are informally recommended by our bank.

Many thanks, Rory

Eileen

I replied to the poster directly but a couple of notes on this to at least give people an idea what I think this might cost for future.

There were a few of us that wrote payment processors that went out with the 2.1 release. I've seen elsewhere that Lobo estimated that it would take 20-50 hours to write one. It probably did (I'm trying to remember) but we improved the documentation along the way (and have that experience now) so I would hope it would be much less than that in future (50% or less) - I think we all found that the quality of tools / system provided by the payment processor made a big difference and that one gotcha could take as long as the rest put together.

For some reason all the people doing the processors earlier this year seemed to be in Australia or New Zealand so you may be able to benefit from the exchange rate.

The other thing I would strongly recommend is that you get a developer account organised yourself and have the details ready to give out to the person as that can be the long winded part of the process.

I would also note that PeterD has been doing some comparisons of payment processors available in NZ and it's worth doing the same as depending on the volume of your transactions different processors may be cheaper (e.g balance between rate / fixed fee / transaction fee)

Key thing from the NZ situation is that some services are much cheaper for the smaller operators while others are for big volume. So clients need to know their income trends and base decision on that. And haggle! Have had several offers to drop Setup Fees or even monthly fees if it makes the difference!

Hi Rory.

We recently integrated CiviCRM with Realex in Ireland.

Whilst the module isn't in a state that could be uploaded as a contributed Drupal community project, it could probably quite easily be turned in to a working solution for your installation - get in touch if you'd like to chat further.

Nic
