is Drupal integration loose?

I'm playing with a dummy install & wondering how tight the civi-to-drupal integration is.  Here are my concerns:
  • Nothing shows in /admin/content/node -- seems all civi data is stored separate from drupal content db's.  Reason it's a concern is that I'd like to pull "featured member" profile data into panels or some such... is there anyway to do this save custom php?
  • There's no data to pull from civiEvents for a calendar view using Date & Calendar modules.  I know civi creates it's own event-view, but what about a calendar?

These are the things that came to mind immediately while playing with civi, i might pop back for a few more integration concerns.

CiviCRM has its own database/code base and structurally it is bit different from Drupal. It is not a content type or a node.
