Sluggish javascript
November 25, 2008, 08:30:41 am
I've got two sites running 2.1.2. I've noticed that pretty much all the javascript driven stuff is really sluggish. For example, when I type text into the sidebar contact search, it takes a good 5-6 secs. before a list pops up. The ajaxified custom fields for event registrations take forever to show once you've selected the event and participant type -- sometimes never showing up.

I'm pretty sure it's a hosting problem, which is surprising since both sites are running on a VPS with what should be more than adequate resources. But I've got another site running 2.1.0 on shared hosting, and for these particular javascript functions, it runs remarkably faster. So unless there was some significant change between revisions, it appears to be a hosting problem.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has run into this problem, and what they've done to try to debug it.

Do you get errors on 2.1.2 install ? Might be timeout issue ..

No errors -- just very slow performance.

I made some changes to the hosting environment to free up resources and performance has improved. Looks like that may have been the only issue.
