joomla and css

On our site, when we took out the if statement that makes the joomla.css provisional for the frontend, it makes the main joomla links bolded. What might be causing this? The links have classes called  .mainlevel-botnav. Is this a conflict with civi?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

if you are using a firefox client then load Firebug. This allows you to delve under the hood and see what css is being called.
