Smart groups on smart groups...
November 26, 2008, 09:37:15 am
Okay guys... what I am doing wrong...

I have a smart group (called 2007donors group id 7) which is anyone who contributed between 01/01/2007 & 31/12/2007.

I have a smart group (called 2008donors group id 8) which is anyone who contributed between 01/01/2008 & 31/12/2008.

I want to create a smart group of people who are in 2007donors and not in 2008donors. So I created a search builder...
  Individual : group :  = : 7
  Individual : group : != : 8

The problem is that there are several people in all three groups.

Am I doing something really stupid here?

Search builder will not work, since the != follows sql semantics on a join table.

you might want to use the custom search for include/exclude groups shipped with 2.1.x

Wow - the "Include / Exclude Contacts in a Group / Tag" custom search seems to work properly when used with smart groups. That is awesome, very useful functionality. Way to go, guys.
