temporary failure from mail server
December 02, 2008, 02:32:04 pm
Part way through a mailing that we sent today our mail server started returning a temporary failure (451) message.

CiviMail seems to have marked all these recipients as "bounced" instead of queuing them up for later.

First off, is this proper behavior?  Shouldn't CiviMail attempt to re-send the messages at a later date?

Second, is there a way to resend the message only to the bounced addresses?

Thanks
Tobias

Sorry about your trouble, but I'm so happy that maybe I've found someone else with the same issue - I called them premature bounces.  I'm not sure how to check the error code, but sure sounds like the issue that we have on every large mailing over a few hundred.

What do you think ? Same issue ?

In our case, we haven't been able to get the PERL script bounce processing to work (see PHP only efforts and may be available in version 2.2), so it is easy for us to see the premature bounces.  I have a theory that others have this issue, but may not be able to identify it because the premature bounces are mixed in with their real bounces - just a theory.

Also see similar issue at:
