Any interest to develop non Email centric contacts
December 05, 2008, 12:13:52 am
In my application I am faced with many contacts either sharing an e-mail or having no e-mail at all. The present e-mail centric organisation of contacts makes it difficutl to use Civicrm for my application. Also, how to register (manually) participants that have no e-mail?

Therefore I am exploring the  creating of a branch with this modification.
Is there anybody interested to share in the development?

I'd say your unlikely to find support here for the idea of forking...

Especially because I'm not even sure what you mean by 'email centric' or what problem you are trying to solve. CiviCRM does not require contacts to have a unique email address or any email address. (If you are using it with Drupal, then it it Drupal which enforces unique emails for each User (irrelevant of Contact records), but this can be worked around.)

My sole interest is to be able to handle contacts and event registration for people that either
- have no email address
- share a common email
If I find a solution with the present concept I am all too happy.

I am not using drupal.
To link with other applications from my CMS I just need to have a unique id for each user or contact

I understand that contacts can be created without Email address
I do not know yet how to enter e-mail registrations without E-mail address online (people write a letter or telephone or send a sms),

Thanks for any more clarification how to solve the problem with actual version.

CiviCRM has a pretty decent offline registration system for handling the above scenario. The administrator can search for and find the contact (or create one if not already present), Click on the events tab and then create a new registration

That looks great. I only fail to get this running on standalone. What URL do I need to enter?

http://standalone.demo.civicrm.org/index.php?q=civicrm/contact/view/participant&reset=1&action=add&cid=104&context=participant

you will need to login to the standalone demo to see the above page. You will need a valid openid

Yes, I see. Remains only one question: On standalone 2.1.2 is this already installed? If not, what need I to do?
