PayPal and recurring payments
December 09, 2008, 09:34:37 am
Hi folks,

Apologies in advance for these very basic questions - we kind of wound up in a bind with our current hosted system (Democracy in Action) and are scrambling to implement recurring payments processing this week.

We're using Website Payments Pro right now and have the one-time payment integration working just fine.  However, when I enter a recurring transaction it processes the first payment in PayPal, but the payment does not show up under PayPal recurring payments.

My understanding is that this is because CiviContribute does not support recurrings through Website Payments Pro, but that it is possible to configure this through Website Payments Standard - is this correct?

Assuming I can do this through WPS, would I have to create a new PayPal account?  And if were were to go that route, does that mean our donors would be redirected to the PayPal site in order to finish the transaction?

Thank you.

yes, recurring works with paypal standard. I dont think you need to create a new paypal account. You can use the same account. the credentials we use to send to paypal are a bit different (we juse need the email address associated with the paypal account)

yes, your donors will be redirected to paypal and complete the process there. they will then be redirected back. paypal basically does most of the recurring work, we just record it in the civicontribute tables
