Time issue not allowing mail send on ver 2.1.2
December 10, 2008, 01:58:31 am
Hello,
I run a nonprofit based in NJ and we recently switched to Dreamhost because 1. our old server wasn't compatible with CiviCRM (yes we think CiviCRM is so awesome we wanted to switch servers) and 2. because they donate space to nonprofits and that is amazing.

I am not tech savvy and so I know this message might sound very silly but I wanted to post it anyway.  We are running Joomla 1.5 with CiviCRM 2.1.2 and I just recently installed both to our Dreamhost server.  We want to use both to maintain events and registrations as well as a newsletter (we currently pay $15 a month to Constant Contact so every dollar saved helps!) while having our main site remain html.

It was my goal to test Civimail and make sure that we can use it as our main e-newsletter service and ditch the paid one.  Everything seemed to go smoothly until I hit send now.  It seems that since we are in New Jersey and the server is in California we are having conflicting time zone issues.  So when I ask for it to send now it thinks I am asking it to send it 3 hours before and is not sending it at all.

I'm wondering if there is an easy fix to this because in going through all the global settings I could not find anything.  I did do a few Google searches and found that this was an issue that might have a fix in CiviCRM version 2 but I wasn't sure if it had been addressed.

Unfortunately, code looks like a foreign language to me and I don't understand it but I'm willing to try so if there is any solution please let me know.

Our main site is here: http://blossominternational.org/
I have Joomla and CiviCRM currently installed here:  http://blossominternational.org/register/

Also, let me thank everyone who has worked on this project.  Without your work our organization's ability to compete with larger org.'s on the web would be impossible.  You make so much of our growth possible and I really admire your work.

My guess is that you’re not actually sending the mailing, just scheduling it. When you’re viewing the list of mailings, is that mailing described as scheduled?

If so, can you edit the address in your so that instead of …civicrm/mailing… you visit the …civicrm/mailing/queue… page?

If this does indeed sends the mailing, it means you’re lacking a cronjob for sending the mails – an entry in a crontable (which is executed every given X minutes/hours/days) which would call the actual sending of the scheduled mailings.
If you found the above helpful, please consider helping us in return – you can even steer CiviCRM’s future and help us extend CiviCRM in ways useful to you.
