Duplicate Matching
December 14, 2008, 01:28:58 am
I have a Drupal 5 CiviCRM 2.0.4 site. We plan to upgrade to 2.0.7, but this site has at least a half dozen core CiviCRM files which were edited to add functionality, so it may take a bit of time.

The problem we are experiencing presently is that event registrations are creating duplicate contact entries. Our "Matching Rules for Individual Contacts" page has:

Field Length Weight
Email 100       5

Threshold 4

That's it. If I signup for an event using my email and then signup again for the same event (using a different browser) or another event using the same email, a new contact is created for my email.

I tried setting the Length of the Email row above on the "Matching Rules for Individual Contacts" page to be blank, but the results are the same.

Can anyone offer any assistance?

I think you need to set correct "Duplicate Contact Matching Rule".   "Matching Rules for Individual Contacts"  are used of only for Duplicate finding in v2.0.
I don't have 2.0 install, so I might be wrong.

Indeed you are quite right. I see that "Configure Duplicate Matching Rule" is set to email, First name and Last name. I registered now using same email and name as my existing contact and indeed it did NOT make a duplicate.

Thank you very much!
