Pay later doesn't collect name?
December 14, 2008, 06:42:48 pm
I've been testing out CRM 2.1 (along with Drupal 6) as I get ready to upgrade, and I noticed something that seems wrong. Now I just might be missing something so I thought I'd just double check. It happens on both my installation and the official demo site.

I set-up a contribution page and allowed people to choose "Pay Later". I noticed that when I did that, if the user selected "Pay Later" all the billing contact info(data entry fields - Name & Address) are removed. Personally I'd prefer them just being made optional, but it also removed the Donor's Name. This means that for people who take the "Pay Later" option, all we have on record is their email address. I really think that at least the donor's name should still be requested.

I believe that the update that removed the Full Billing name & address was generated by the ticket below

http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-2718

I tested my situation with

Yes, we remove billing information block when you check  "Pay Later". This is done since user is not actually paying. If you want to collect information about the contributor, i would suggest to include profile for your Contribution page.

This does raise an issue which I dont think we thought about. If you do include a profile folks will need to enter their billing / home address twice (unless the user add some js to the template to copy as needed). We'll need to do a rethink about this and improve it in a future version

Thank You. The primary piece of info I was hoping for is the pending donor's name, although the physical  mailing address would be nice in case we wanted to mail a physical letter to them, but its not a requirement. If the physical address was collected it could of course be optional since it is not really required(in most cases) to process the "pay later" option. The CC info(Number Exp date etc.) would of course not be required since we are not processing a Credit-card at that time and that info is also not stored.
