Form: Required Membership, Optional Additional Donation. How to accomplish?
December 15, 2008, 12:37:57 pm
Hi thanks for reading.  Ran into a little snag while trying to set up a combination signup/contribution page.  Our goal is that the page does two things:
1) Requires a membership and processes the membership fee
2) Provides the OPTION of making an additional non-membership contribution

We have configured this form as best we can but it is not working how we expect.
The form is located here:  http://nscss.org/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=3

The error:
1. Select any membership level and select "no thanks" from the contribution section.  Enter your email only (no other fields are required) and click Continue at the bottom of the page.
2. Notice on the next page no transaction is listed and no Google button (we are using Google checkout) appears
3. If backup (click the browser back button) and you make a small contribution, even $1 in the "other" field then both the membership fee and the additional, optional contribution will show up and the Google continue button will showup and will process.

How we have it configured
       Yes:  Contribution Amounts section enabled
       Yes:  Require Membership Signup
       Yes:  Separate Membership Payment

Is there something we are missing?  We are currently running version 2.1.1 on Drupal 6.6

Thanks let me know if you have any insight as to how we can achieve our goal.

Thanks so much!   :) :)

can you please file an issue for this. This was also reported on IRC (for 2.0) recently. We'll fix for 2.1 before the next release

I've just upgraded to 2.1.4 and notice the new error message if we try to use Google Checkout to run a separate simultaneous transaction.  We really do want to accomplish this separate membership/donation thing on the same form, it just looks like we selected the wrong payment processor huh?

So what's the easiest way to accomplish our goal in your opinion?  Is it just to switch payment processors?  If so, what processors WILL support separate transitions?    Any other way?

The easiest option would be to use paypal web payments pro to get the below feature

alternatively you might want to consider sponsoring this feature for processors like paypal standard / google checkout. We'll need to do some research to figure out how best to pass two transactions etc for these processors. I dont think it is a trivial fix and will be appro 30-50 hours (at least)
