Import contributions as CiviPledge payments

It would be good to import contributions as payments for pledges. This would prevent a lot of manual data entry.

Would be great for the community to step up and contribute this feature (or sponsor it). Another related and similar feature would be a soft credit import

Ken - Can you post details about your current workflow and how you would use the import. This will help us answer some questions about requirements.

Would you expect that the Pledges are already "in the system" and you would just be importing payments?

What data can you have in the import file to match the payment to the pledge?

Our workflow ...
 - we have N donors who give us their credit card details (off line)
 - we make a payment each month in accordance with their instructions (by uploading an N-row spreadsheet to our payment gateway)

So, in Civispeak ...
 - we would like to model each of the N donors as a contact with a CiviPledge
 - each month we don't want to do the N CiviPledge payments manually, but as a single upload
 - in our situation, our contacts only have 1 pledge active at any given time
 - so a CiviContribute import would suffice
 - all we need is to have a column in the imported CSV file which is boolean: TRUE means the contribution is a pledge payment; FALSE means it is not
 - if the flag is FALSE for a row, there is no special processing
 - if it is TRUE, and there is no pledge, then that is an error
 - if it is TRUE, and there is a pledge, then the normal pledge processing logic is applied

Ken - I've added an issue to the queue which hopefully will make it into the 2.2. release. I'm pretty sure the specifications will fit your use case nicely - but would be great if you check it:

http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-3968

.... and run some tests with your data once the issue is marked resolved (you can potentially do this with a small set of desensitized data on the 2.2 sandbox - http://sandbox.civicrm.org).

Dave,

I read CRM-3968 and part 2 is a neat solution to the problem I posed (I don't understand enough about soft credits to make a comment on part 1).

Thanks for your attention to my request, and your hard work!
Ken
