Setting up users, roles & profiles in Drupal-CiviCRM installation
December 22, 2008, 11:46:34 am
Hello!  I am new to the forum and have a few questions about what is possible.  I have created users in Drupal, synchronized those contacts to CiviCRM with no problems, however, what I want to do is the following:

1.  Have someone join as a member at $0 (without showing the $0 on the form), prompt them to create a username and password which allows them to edit the info which I am asking them to fill-out in a CiviCRM profile which I've already created and linked to my membership form.

2.  For existing contacts and members which I will import into CiviCRM, send each contact a personalized email to create a corresponding Drupal user account which will allow them to edit the profile fields referenced above in the member sign-up form.

Basically, I want to treat everyone as a comp member ($0) and give them the ability to create their own username, password and edit their profile.  Can this be done and if so, can someone give me a hint as to where to start with this and what core and/or additional modules may be required.  I am using Drupal 6.8, CiviCRM 2.1.  Many thanks.

You don't need to set them up as a 'member' to do what is described, so if there is no special reason for having them as members, why not just have them sign up as a contact using the profile.

Okay....I found out how that could work for new contacts but how can I create usernames and passwords for all existing contacts that were not in Drupal but imported into CiviCRM at the start?

you can use the user_import module (http://drupal.org/project/user_import) to create drupal accounts. So you will need to export the CiviCRM contacts that do not have a drupal account and then use the above module
