Multi-select custom field uses
December 22, 2008, 11:46:51 am
I'd like to be able to multi-select the uses for custom fields. For example, I have a custom group for memberships and would like it to apply to two different types of memberships. Currently I can select "any" or one option.

This feature is now on the 2.3 roadmap. However, there's "experimental" functionality in 2.2 which exports and imports custom field definitions as XML. This could be useful to you as a way to replicate groups of custom fields ??? Checkout the export.php and import.php command-line scripts in bin/migrate.

So you're saying the experimental functionality in 2.2 requires importing the definitions, or presumably altering the db manually? i.e. there's no interface capabilities to handle multi-select custom fields?

I'll give it a try...

Sorry for being cryptic. Actually I meant that you could potentially "clone" your custom field groups for your different membership types by exporting, copying and editing the xml, and then reimporting. Not sure this is worth the hassle of experimenting with UNLESS you find yourself needing to inject the same or similar sets of custom fields into multiple DB's.

(btw - Happy Holidays :-) )

Ok.
I just made the fields available to all subtypes (in this case, all membership types). I prefer specifying the 2-3 types so that it doesn't clutter/confuse the interface for the other types. But it's not a big deal for now.

thanks -- and happy holidays to you too!
