Custom Profile Search Based on Field Value
December 28, 2008, 05:10:58 pm
Hello,

I am using CiviCRM 2.1.1 with Joomla.  I am using CiviCRM to maintain an Alumni directory for my High School.  I have created a profile to collect standard information such as grad year, maiden name, etc.  One of things we want to do is have an online searchable directory.  When we collect the information, one of the custom fields is Publish in Online Directory and the response is either yes or no.  If they check yes, I want to be able create a searchable listing using only the Alumni who checked yes.  However, I am really struggling with this one.  Smart Groups don't seem to do this and if I create a new profile I cannot see how to use the specific criteria I am looking for such as Profile=Yes.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

Ken

1. can you create a smart group where the "Publish in Online Directory" is Yes

2. Restrict the profile to members of the above smart group

Thanks for the reply..

Not sure if I am going down the right road so let me explain my scenario.

Alumni will come to the website, click a submit your info for the database. They will either choose to sign up or just post their demographic information.  I have created a 0 dollar membership so they can just basically post their info.  I have a Alumni profile set up with some custom fields.  One of those fields is Post in Online directory.  If they choose Yes (only yes or no are choices) then their information is available to other paid members, not the folks who just posted without joining.

After they join, I will add their Joomla logins to special status so they will have the paid member options available.  One of those options, I would like to be a online alumni search.  This would allow them to search for alumni based on grad year, zip code, etc.

I am kinda confused about the flow and logic. I have the Membership pages set up it seems to collect the proper info and link to PayPal, etc.   The online directory seems to be the biggest snag.

I created a Smart Group and a Online Search profile as you suggested. However that does not seem to work..

Am I going about this the proper way?

Thanks,

Ken

can you elaborate a bit more on what does not seem to work? Also can you setup you profile along with the custom data on drupal.demo.civicrm.org and see if you can reproduce the issue

thanx
