Installation Problem - Package not found
December 28, 2008, 07:56:03 pm
Good Day,

I followed the instructions to install CIVICRM 2.1.4 on Joomla 1.5.x and was unsuccessful. When I attempt to install from directory, an error message appears stating that the package is not found. Is there documentation that explains exactly how to install cause it seems as if the documentation is not up to par (per my experience and other members posts)?

I'm not sure if this makes a difference for the install but I using GoDaddy as my hosting and I am using a shared server.

Thanks for the assist,

Ralph

The directory location where the unpacked civicrm files are must be the full root directory -- not relative to your www files. That message means you don't have the correct directory location.

The files don't actually need to be in the root directory, but you need to enter (in the "from directory" field of the Joomla installer) the full path to the files relative to the root.

I have a shared server as well and I had to work out what that path was (it wasn't supplied anywhere I could see).  In my case it was usr/local/[my user account]/www/[my domain]/docs/[and so forth on to the actual folder where the files were located].

I figured this out because there was a couple of maps to files located on the root (which is inaccessible to me, as they are to you).  Or perhaps you can get the answer from the godaddy knowlege base or support.

If you figure this out, it will no doubt be useful to future civiCRM GoDaddy users if you post it.  (and do a search of forums for GoDaddy as there have been lots of postings from frustrated GoDaddy users - which might help you.)

Found how to find the root path in Joomla:

go to the Help>System Info>Configuration Path and scroll down to $log_path. This is the ENTIRE path you should be adding when using Install from Directory.

Your path will probably look something like this:
home/yourserver/yoursite.com/administrator/components/com_installer/com_civicrm

Thanks all for the help!

It seems I have another problem....

An error message is showing up saying

Quote
        * Component Install: Another Component is already using directory: "/home/content/r/p/l/rplaskett/html/demo/dp/components/com_civicrm"
        * Component Install: Another Component is already using directory: "/home/content/r/p/l/rplaskett/html/demo/dp/administrator/components/com_civicrm"

I have checked both folders and there isn't any com_civicrm folders anywhere...

Does anyone know how to get past this error message?

Thanks,
Ralph

Sorry it's been so long . . .

That is what happens after you've started an install and it created those directories and started to put files into them before timing out or otherwise not successfully installing.  Or perhaps you had those folders from an earlier version of civiCRM installed.  Or something.  You can't do a new install if those folders are already created - you need to go back and delete or rename those folders before trying the install again.

Hmmm.  You sure?  Have you checked after trying to install, or was that check at the beginning of your process?  You did refresh your connection on your FTP program?
