Hi. I'm new to CiviCRM. Just set it up for a bicycle collective. We have a system set up so that volunteers can trade in volunteer hours to get bike parts.

Using CiviContribute, I set up a new contribution type called "volunteer hours", and I was able to enter in only positive dollar amounts. When I tried to enter a negative amount (representing someone trading in hours for bike parts), it said that this was not a valid amount.

Questions:

1. Is it possible to record contributions as hours rather than dollars?
2. Is it possible to somehow track negative contributions?
3. Is there a better way to do this rather than using CiviContribute?

Hi.

We've used a custom fields for Contributions to map the dollar amount to a particular inkind contribution. For example
we wanted to track blood donors as contributors and hence we used a custom field for Blood Type and Amount
as custom fields and used them for a Blood Donation Page. However, the dollar amount was required so we
use a customary $ 1 for all these type of transactions.

How are you tracking the total number of volunteer hours each volunteer has in their "bank"?

we're not tracking that at the moment. but it could be done via custom queries through the API.
