Phone number problems
January 07, 2009, 08:56:29 am
Dear All,
I am using Drupal v.5.14, CiviCRM v.2.0.6-drupal on Debian Etch in a linux-vserver setting.
I have a setting by which anonymous users can register for membership, and whilst doing so, enter their contacts and some other essential membership data. Upon approval by the membership administrator, the will gain login access to the site, and can access membership lisitngs, among other goodies.
The problem I encountered with both the above version as well as the demo version on the CiviCRM website is that something is wrong with the data allocation when using profiles: I have created a individual/contact profile for membership registration, that includes phone numbers, namely phone-primary-phone, phone-primary-mobile and phone-primary-fax.
Whenever I enter a number into phone-primary-phone, it appears also in all the other aforesaid phone fields (phone-primary-mobile and phone-primary-fax), and I cannot enter different numbers for these fields.
If I go to the member record edit mode, all three (differently entered!) phone numbers DO, however, appear correctly!!!
I CAN, however, different numbers, and they appear as different numbers in the resulting listings, if I define the profile fields like, for instance: phone-primary-phone, phone-work-mobile, phone-other-fax. This "emergency" solution is, however, not clean and is prone to render import and export of data and possibly upgrading a nightmare.
I can only conclude that there is a bug somewhere in the way profiles allocate phone numbers to the database.
Alternatively, I may well be missing something. any help would be greatly appreciated, as I have wasted a lot of time on this issue!
Thanks as lot!!!
Chris

can you try to reproduce this issue on our sandbox site: http://sandbox.civicrm.org/. You'll need to create a profile with the 3 phone numbers and then do a create/view/edit etc

If you can create it, please file an issue and we'll fix it for 2.2 or so. You should be able to backport the fix to 2.0 at that stage

thanx

Thanks for your reply, but I do not seem to have enough permissions to create any profile, as I cannot go to Adminster CiviCRM in the sandbox.

Off topic, but not quite: Does the latest stable version of CiviCRM still require PHP 5.2.1, or is it happy with PHP 5.2.0 (Debian Etch!)?

Done, phone number test profile added to sandbox as user demo.
Thereafter, phone numbers added to user demo.
Same error as described for previous versions.
Any quick fix??? Otherwise I have to throw CiviCRM overboard!
Thanks a lot,
Chris

In the current model, there is only ONE primary phone number (irrespective of phone type). Hence you see only one of the phone entries being filled out.

One easy way to get around the issue is to allocate a location type, so collect:

Phone-Home-Phone
Phone-Home-Fax
Phone-Home-Mobile

and it works fine. I've tested it on sandbox with the above types

Thanks - seems that got changed, as I tried to install CiviCRM before on Debian Etch with PHP v5.2.0, and it did not accept that version...

Thanks again,
Yes the phone-home-xxx option works, indeed, in the demo version, but with the one I am currently using. Will try to upgrade! Thanks a lot for your help!
