Custom Profile duplicates in online event registration

CiviCRM 2.1 on Joomla 1.5.7

1) I added a custom profile in the "top of page" of Online Registration for a CiviEvent.

2) After the online event registration was up and running, I went and made some changes to the profile (basically checked the "Update contact on a duplicate match?" and saved the profile).

3) After that whenever I go to my online event registration page I see that this custom profile now gets included in "bottom of page" also.So, I have 2 copies of the custom profile (duplicates) on my online registration page.

4) I went to the Online Registration section of my CiviEvent to remove the custom profile from the "bottom of page", but that doesn't work - every time I save the event online registration settings, the custom profile gets added back to "bottom of page"

This is also repro if I make any change to the event registration settings (and don't even touch custom profile settings).

I searched the forum and didn't find any related post. Any help would be appreciated.

can you try to reproduce this on our demo box: joomla.demo.civicrm.org

and give us exact steps on what you did etc

If this is urgent, please edit the civicrm_uf_join table (via PMA) and remove the offending entries for that page. weight 1 signifies top of page, weight 2 signfies bottom of page

by any chance was this an upgrade from an older version of CiviCRM?

I tried this on joomla.demo.civicrm.org. Here is what I did and found:

1) In an existing event online registration settings, I added an existing profile (Name and Address) to "top of page"
2) I viewed the live registration page
3) I went to the profile and added a field to it
4) I also checked the "Update contact on a duplicate match?" in the Advanced Settings section
5) Saved the profile
6) When I viewed the live page again, the Name and Address profile had moved to "bottom of page"

So, there seems to me some anomaly on the demo server as against ours, in which case, the "top of page" profile gets repeated in "bottom of page".

Ours is not an upgrade from previous versions. But, since we have godaddy hosting, we weren't able to install CiviCRM directly. We had to install it on dreamhost and copy over all the files (and db).

issue filed and fixed at: http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-3991

i've updated the demo boxes. Can you give it a try again and see if you can reproduce
